The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is an independent body of the European Union founded in 2008 to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship across Europe. The EIT acts through its operational arm, the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs), which create the conditions in which innovation is most likely to flourish and generate new development solutions. EIT Food is a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) created to transform our food ecosystem. By connecting consumers with companies, start-ups, researchers and students across Europe, EIT Food supports innovative and economically sustainable initiatives that improve our health, our access to quality food and the environment in which we live. EIT Food combines the sides of the Knowledge Triangle (innovation, education, business) with a consumer-focused approach that gives European citizens the opportunity to become real agents of change.
EIT Food involves consumers in the process of change, with the aim of improving the quality of nutrition and making the food system more efficient, safe, transparent and reliable.
